Seventh Anniversary of SEA (India)

The Seventh Anniversary function of SEA India was celebrated on July 19, 2008 at Toubro Block, L&T ECC Ltd., Chennai. Mr R. Thiruvengadam, President, SEA India welcomed invitees and participants. Mr. J. Ganguly, Executive Vice President, L&T ECC Ltd. in his Presidential Address advised safety engineers to take a lead role and be responsible in taking up safety issues with their managements. He stressed the point that safety engineers need to be integral part of the management team.

Dr. Nalini Krishnan, Director, The Hindu, in her Keynote Address reiterated that workplace safety could be effective only if it is treated as part of the management system. She also suggested large companies with excellent safety standards to guide and lead less informed and small companies.

Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. S. Elangovan, Chief Inspector of Factories said that safety awareness at workplace is key to success in implementing safety systems. He advised safety engineers to spread safety awareness not only to industry personnel but to the entire society. He also stated that some companies who do not pay required attention for the safety of their workers which sometimes lead to fatal accidents or heavy damages to equipments.

NEBOSH Course Inaugurated

The first batch of International General Certificate Course of NEBOSH commenced on February 23, 2008 at Sri Ramachandra University (SRU), Porur. 20 students of the first batch of the course were present. Dr. S. Rangaswamy Vice Chancellor-SRU inaugurated the course and complimented SEA (India) and the Environmental Health Engineering Department of SRU for their efforts in bringing in the Safety professional course to India. He also wished the students for their success in the examination and growth in their career as Safety professionals. Mr. W.A. Balakumaran briefed on the syllabus for the course and the methodology of further programme and the examinations. Mr. R. Thiruvengadam, President gave a welcome address.Mr. R. Paremeswaran proposed a vote of thanks.
